I do it with soy milk. I used to drink water, but hot chocolate with milk (soy or not) just have a feeling thicker, fuller if you drink. The output of water tends to "thin" and now I have the feeling that drink water flavored with chocolate.
I used to drink hot water when soy milk was not readily available.
Normally, a package of chocolate powder, chocolate soy milk is it doing for me. I'm not a fan of syryps. Or marshmallows or whipped cream.
Now that you have made me want hot chocolate ...

I do it with half and pour boiling water (soy) milk for him to cool it. The mixtures often have milk in them, and unless it is a very cheap - it's too rich, if not also used in the water at least half.
